News has reached us of the death of Club Member Mark Warham, who died on the 28th April at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

Allan Stuart

We are saddened to receive news that our member Allan Stuart died on April 21st, aged 95. Allan climbed almost exclusively with fellow members of the Wayfarers' Club

Bob Allen

We are saddened to receive news of the death on the 18th April of our member, Bob Allen.

A memorial service will be held at St Oswalds Church, Grasmere, on 10th May at 1pm.

Francois Edwards

News has reached us of the death of Club Member Francois Edwards, who died on the 3rd of April. 

Francois joined the Alpine Club in 1959.

Livia Gollancz

It is with sadness that we report the news of the death of our member, Livia Gollancz.

Livia had become a member of the Ladies Alpine Club in 1966. She was also a member of the LAC Committee in 1966 and Archivist from 1989 to 1999.

 

Livia died on the 29th March, aged 97.

Norman Hardie

It is with great sadness that we report the death in New Zealand on 30th October of Honorary Member Norman Hardie, a member of the team to first ascend Kangchenjunga in 1955 and past President of the New Zealand Alpine Club.

Fred Beckey

The Alpine Club is deeply saddened by the news that AC Honorary Member Fred Beckey has died at the age of 94. A climber who had an unparalleled number of first ascents to his name, right across the US.

''But in the end, its really the selection of climbs that tell us the most about the world's most accomplished climber. Beckey's favorite climbs are defined by purity of line, position, and quality of movement - not difficulty. Fred's new book makes me really appreciate his innate ability to choose nature's most beautiful lines'' Mark Kroese writing in both the AAJ 2012 and the AJ 2013.

John Monks

We are saddened to learn of the death of our member John Monks who died on 9th August. His funeral will take place at the catholic church in Nyon, Switzerland on 18th August.

Walt Unsworth

It is with sadness that we have learnt that Walt Unsworth died on the 7th of June. He was born in 1928 and elected a Member in 1968. He also founded Cicerone Press. A full obituary will follow.

John Ashburner

News has reached us that John Ashburner passed away on 5th May at Aintree Hospital, Liverpool, after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer of the larynx.

Peter Mallalieu

It is with great sadness that we report the death on 6th March of Peter Mallalieu, Honorary Keeper Emeritus of the Club’s Paintings.  

Peter joined the Club in 1992 and in 1996 became Honorary Keeper of the Club’s Paintings. In 2007 he published ‘The Artists of the Alpine Club’, the first ever biographical study of Alpine Club artists

Peter Mallalieu's funeral was held at Banbury Crematorium on Friday 17 March at 2.00 pm.

Alan Lyall

We are saddened to learn of the death of Alan Lyall who died on Monday, 9th January,  He had been a member for 25 years, joining as a full member in 1991. Alan is known for his book The First Descent of the Matterhorn: A Bibliographical Guide to the 1865 Accident and its Aftermath.
