The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

It is with sadness that we report the news of the death of our member, Susan Band, on the 27th April.

We understand that there will be a funeral service on the 9th May at Midday in Heckfield.

My wife Geeta and I are indeed sad to learn about death of Susan Band. When she and George visited Mumbai we realised how charming couple they were. Very informal and full of life. We trekked in Central India and enjoyed. We Indian trekkers had nick named her as Queen, with her immaculate dress sense and courtesy. When we visited UK next, sadly George Band had passed on. But we met Susan on few occasions and she invited us home to spend a memorable day. She generously agreed to talk about George and her life on camera for Oral History recording and I have her words for memory. She had promised to come back to Mumbai for a visit, but alas she had other invitation. Rest In Peace Susan
