The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

We are saddened to announce the death on 26 June of Johanna Merz.  She joined the club in 1986 and was Editor of the Alpine Journal from 1992 to 1998

Sorry to learn about death of Johanna Merz. As editor I interacted with her often. During one of my visits to London was invited to her home. She showed me many things. Very knowledgeable and hard working. Rest in Peace. HARISH KAPADIA
