The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!

In the footsteps of Cassin and Bonatti. The Lake Como meet is based on the Piano di Resinelli plateau, beneath the Grigna Mountains (Gruppo delle Grigne, Grigna Meridionale (2177m), Grigna Settentrionale (2410m) above Lecco.

On the Cecelia Footpath - Nick Hurndall Smith

It gives easy access by foot and by car to a variety of possibilities:

  • Low level south facing crags (Corno del Medale, Zucco dell'Angelone) for rock climbing in t-shirts and shorts, even in March.

  • Higher up on the north side, there is a wide choice of snow ridges/ice gullies from F to TD+ (conditions permitting).

Unfortunately I cannot guarantee the conditions, but in the case there is no snow, there is a fair amount of rock climbing on limestone and gneiss in the valleys.

Italian hospitality included, and if there is bad weather visits to Milan, Bergamo etc or a boat ride on the lake.

We will be staying at the Rifugio Locatelli. The cost of the hut is 60 Euros per day, half board, to be confirmed. Up to 16 participants are welcome.
