The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!

Mick Fowler - Chombu: The One That Got Away
Tuesday 14 November 2023, 07:30pm
Tuesday 14 November 2023

Mick Fowler is one of Britain's most successful and most prolific mountaineers. For several decades, he would travel to the greater ranges once a year and return with a first ascent on a remote, untrodden peak.

But Chombu (6,362m) in Northern Sikkim is a different story. Mick has attempted the mountain with Victor Saunders on three occasions, all without success. In this lecture, Mick will detail those attempts and consider the unique difficulties of this still-unclimbed peak.
