The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!

Tom Harding: Greenland Unclimbed & Heather Dawe on 'No Substance But Light'
Tuesday 27 June 2023, 07:30pm
Tuesday 27 June 2023

In this lecture Tom talks about his 2019 expedition to Renland, an alpine granite paradise found in the Scoresby Sund, the largest Fjord system in the world. This area of East Greenland has seen more than half a century of climbing expeditions yet much of it still remains unexplored and unclimbed. He also looks at East Greenland logistics in general; how, by overcoming the red-tape themselves and by using a local agent, his team was able to put together one of the least expensive expeditions to have visited this area of Greenland.

The talk will also feature an opening Q&A with artist Heather Dawe whose exhibition, 'No Substance But Light' is currently on display at the Alpine Club. Heather will be interviewed about the inspiration behind her work by the AC's Keeper of Pictures, William Mitchell, making for a well-rounded evening featuring both art and stories from the mountains.

This event will be held at the Alpine Club's premises at 55 Charlotte Road, London, EC2A 3QF from 7PM on 27 June 2023.

For safety reasons, we are required to keep a register of all attendees. If you plan to attend, please complete the form below. (This applies to both members and non-members).

There is no official charge for entry, but we do ask non-members to make a small contribution towards the continued running of the lectures if they are able.
