The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857. For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

Below is a list of Alpine Club Symposia.
Organised by members of The Alpine Club, events focus on the mountains of a particular area, or on a specific aspect of mountaineering. Each symposium runs for a whole day and is typically held at a weekend in the Lake District, North Wales or the Peak District. During the day experts on the subject, including top mountaineers from around the world, give a series of illustrated presentations, creating an event that is both informative and inspiring. Take a look at the impressive list of speakers at recent and forthcoming symposia to see why these events are so popular. The symposia are usually open to members at a discount, as well as non-members.
Symposia are particularly useful for anyone planning an expedition or looking for new places to visit. Many expeditions have started in the bar after a symposium; but be warned: these events can be dangerously inspirational!
Events Calendar

This was planned to be the resurrection of our annual joint exchange meets with the Marseille branch of the French Alpine Club, which were unfortunately interrupted by Covid. However, the CAF members have now had to cancel yet again. Nevertheless, the meet will go ahead as it has done (very successfully) in the last few years.
Reservations have already been made for 12 beds (£10 per person per night). There is a campsite just down the road (and closer to the pub!) if we run out of room in the hut.
From our base, we will have easy access to countless crags of numerous rock types and at all grades of difficulty, from short desperate test pieces to long mountain classics. There is both trad and sport climbing. (The meet has also been scheduled to correspond with a suitable tidal range at Gogarth.)
The mountains of Eryri also offer endless opportunities for scrambling and hill walking if the weather does not shine on us.
As last year, we will have a pizza night at Gallt y Glyn on the Wednesday and a final meal at the Vaynol on the last Saturday.
