The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!

During the summer of 2015 Ed led a team comprising six others to the unexplored Sagtogpa Glacier in the Rongdo Valley region of Ladakh, India to attempt one or more of the unclimbed 6,000m peaks in the area. After establishing an advanced base camp at 5,430m four members of the team and one Sherpa subsequently attempted the corniced SE ridge of a previously unclimbed peak designated X3. Unfortunately, when just 150m short of the summit, incoming poor weather forced a retreat. Continuing bad weather prevented any further attempts in this interesting area.
