The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!

SW LECTURE. George Cave: Expedition to the Muzkol range in Tajikistan, August 2015
Tuesday 17 November 2015, 07:30pm
Tuesday 17 November 2015
In 1940, a Soviet military officer visited the Muzkol range’s AkBaikal valley, gazed up at the five peaks of the ridgeline and declared “the passage of this route would have done credit to any master mountaineer”. In the intervening years just one expedition had attempted any of the peaks and so our team of five set out to try and prove ourselves as master mountaineers. As it turned out, 75 year old Russian climbing beta is not always of the highest quality.

Venue: Upper Room of the Nova Scotia, Cumberland Basin, Hotwells, Bristol, BS1 6XJ. The Nova Scotia is a well-known Bristol landmark, situated at the western end of the Floating Harbour, with ample local parking and good beer. Meet for beer and food from 6.30pm; lectures start at 7.30pm. The AC SW regional organisers are Tony Westcott and Chris Storie.
All AC & Eagle Ski members and guests are welcome. There is no entry charge, but non-members of AC or Eagle Ski are asked to confirm by email to Tony Westcott (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) prior to the event and may like to make a donation of £5 to the AC Climbing Fund.
