Meets

Here is a list of Alpine Club meets. Select additional pages using the numbers at the bottom. A list of past meets is can be seen by clicking here.

The Meets programme provides great opportunities for fellow members to get to know each other in the climbing areas of the UK and the mountains of the world.  UK meets in particular offer the chance for members to drop in, even if it's just for an evening drink.

New members have often attended meets as guests of members before they joined and their presence on meets is particularly welcome both to widen their circle of acquaintance and to assist with maintaining that tradition of openness to prospective members. Non-members may attend meets as guests of members at the discretion of the meet coordinator.

Before attending please read the Meet Guidelines.

Ailefroide has an extensive campsite where we will have an area to pitch. Attendees are asked to book directly with the campsite and to mention the Alpine Club during the booking if they wish to camp with the main AC group. The site is very large and it is easy to be placed a long distance away from other attendees.

It is in a terrific location, surrounded by multi-pitch rock routes and giving access to some classic alpine outings including the traverse of Mont Pelvoux and the Barre.

Potential activities include:
  • Walking (Pleas note: most of the area is national park so dogs are restricted).
  • Via ferrata including a very easy one near the campsite.
  • Cycling (Active or as a spectator - The Tour de France Stage 4 will take place on 2 July and goes from Pinerolo (Turin) to Valloire via Briancon with Stage 19 heading south from Embrun on 19 July.
  • The campsite is surrounded by crags with everything from single pitch to superb multipitch.
  • A variety of snow and ice climbs. (Including a 4000m Summit and Top).
  • There is a swimming pool down the valley (Vallouise) and shops both near the site and down the valley.
  • You can get to Argentiere by train and local bus up the valley (only winter timetables available at the moment).

The alpine club welcomes guests on the summer meet - please write to the meet coordinator with details of your insurance and experience. Sister clubs are also more than welcome, if accompanied by their own coordinator.

Running in parallel with this meet is the Rick Allen Skills Award. This is a new development course offering members guidance as they start to access more challenging multi-day routes. You can find out more details on the award, including how to apply, at the link.

Attendees may wish to join the Meet WhatsApp Group to arrange transport, equipment sharing, partners...etc
