The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!

Tuesday 14 January 2020

We begin the New Year by welcoming Colin Ballantyne, Emeritus Professor in Physical Geography at St Andrews University. In this much-acclaimed talk, which he has also given to the Royal Scottish Geographical Society, Colin will explain the geological evolution of our mountains, including the climate changes of the last ice age and the effects of glaciation on Scotland's scenery. He has also written what looks to be an impressive book with the same title which is due to be published in the next few months. This promises to be a fascinating talk (as well as an opportunity to buy the book!).

The venue is the Quaker Meeting House, 7 Victoria St, Edinburgh EH1 2JL..
