Dave Wynne-Jones, Mick Cottam and I climbed with Chris in the 2007 AC
and HC Himalayas Expedition, and we all held him in great esteem, not
only because he was a highly experienced and accomplished mountaineer
but because he was so pragmatic, down to earth, and extremely likable.
He was a familiar face in the Nottingham Climbing club, and I believe first started climbing in the 70s, being taken under the wing by Doug Scott,
Chris started his career as a Pit Engineer, and he could relate some hair raising first hand stories about pit collapses and cave-ins, and he was familiar with taking calculated risks as a profession, but he later left
the mining industry. I will remember Chris
as an experienced and accomplished climber, expeditioner and
mountaineer, excellent company in any situation.
Harish Kapadia, Secretary of the Himalayan Club, who
has fond memories of Chris has also asked me to convey his and our condolences to the family,
