The Alpine Club, the world’s first mountaineering club, was founded in 1857.  For over 150 years, members have been at the leading edge of worldwide mountaineering development and exploration.

With membership, experienced and aspiring alpinists benefit from a varied meets programme, regional lectures with notable guest speakers, reduced rates at many alpine huts, opportunity to apply for grants to support expeditions, significant discounts at many UK retailers, extensive networking contacts, access to the AC Library and maps - and more!

Friday 10th May saw the release of the latest Pokémon film.

When the Club was approached during the autumn of 2017 by the makers of this film, “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu”, to request the use of the outside façade of 55 Charlotte Road as part of the filming location, we of course said yes as the request came with a contract and with the contract came their fee.

Filming happened over the first weekend of February 2018, when the front façade of the Club, along with a large part of the rest of Charlotte Road, was transformed into one of the London film locations for the movie. Filming also took place along Mills Court, where again the façade was made ready for filming.

The fee provided the Club with a perfect opportunity to replace the old, tired, black window façade, with something fresher. The Club’s logo was placed in the middle window panel, which is illuminated at night, along with two stunning vinyl images by Club member Ben Tibbetts, the winner of the Club’s 2018 photo competition, on either side of it.

As you will see from the photographs below, the impact has been a substantial improvement to the appearance of the front of what is a lovely building, with many of the other local businesses commenting on the transformation.
